Gooey Caramel Brownies
Chocolate Caramel Brownies – Gooey Goodness.
As a young married couple in living in California in 1998, a dear friend of ours introduced us to these fantastic dessert treats one evening at an outdoor Shakespeare festival. We all set up with our blankets and folding beach chairs in the cool California evening air to enjoy a picnic with friends and a fun performance. As we finished our food and poured a glass of wine, she passed a tray of these around. We were hooked!
These are just amazingly decadent Brownies. They are THE simple, quick and fabulous dessert that will wow your guests. Always a big hit with young and old alike. Enjoy! Thank you Leilani!
1 Box Chocolate Cake mix
2, 11 ounce bags of Caramel Candy
1, 14 ounce can Sweetened Condensed Milk
3/4 Cup Unsalted Butter, melted
1 cup coarsely chopped Pecans (optional)
1 Cup Semisweet chocolate Chips (Ghirardelli 60% Cacao Bittersweet Chocolate Baking Chips)
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Unwrap the Caramels and combine with half of the Sweetened Condensed Milk in a small sauce pan and melt over low heat.
In a medium bowl combine the cake mix, butter and the second half of the can of Sweetened Condensed Milk (and chopped pecans if adding)
Stir until combined – a bit mushy.
Press half of the cake mixture into the bottom of a greased 13 inch x 9 inch baking pan.
Bake for 6-8 minutes and remove from the oven.
Sprinkle the Chocolate Chips over the partially baked cake.
Pour the melted caramel mixture evenly over the Chocolate Chips.
Spread the remaining Cake mixture on top of the caramel layer.
Return to the oven and bake for 15 to 18 minutes.
Cool completely, cut into squares and refrigerate.
Serve at room temperature and enjoy!
