Valentine’s Day Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Martini

Strawberries and Chocolate Make the Perfect Cocktail Pairing this Valentine’s Day

When I began thinking about Valentine’s Day cocktails, I knew I wanted this drink to be special.  And what better reflection of Valentine’s Day than the perfect pair?  But what exactly is a perfect pairing?

My first thoughts turned to chocolate.  I love chocolate.  I love chocolate so much that I have attended chocolate making classes and international chocolate tasting festivals.  I love chocolate so much that, in college, I co-founded a campus-funded organization dedicated to the love of chocolate.  Yes, I am a chocoholic.  And so many things go wonderfully with chocolate especially strawberries.

Strawberries and Chocolate = The Perfect Pairing.

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone.  Your sweetheart is sure to enjoy this newest creation: the chocolate-covered strawberry martini.

Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Martini

(make two martinis)
6 oz. Vodka
3 oz. White Creme de Cacao
3 oz. Strawberry Liqueur
Garnishes – Chocolate Magic Shell and two Chocolate Covered Strawberries

You’ll want to prepare the glasses in advanced.

Place the martini glasses in the freezer for at least 30 minutes until chilled. Then, take Chocolate Syrup and apply small dots around the inside edge of the glass, rotating the glass as you go. The Chocolate Syrup will drip down the inside of the glass forming stripes. I found that the Smucker’s Magic Shell Chocolate worked well because it hardens and stays in place longer than just Chocolate Syrup. Place glasses in freezer until ready to pour and serve the drink.

To make the martini, measure out the Vodka, Creme de Cocoa and Strawberry Liquor and pour over ice into a cocktail shaker.

Shake and pour into chilled chocolate covered martini glasses.

Garnish each glass with a small Chocolate Covered Strawberry. Just carefully slice partially through the strawberry and place it on the edge of the glass.

To make a chocolate covered strawberry, first rinse and dry the berries. Next, melt chocolate either in the microwave or in a double boiler.  Dip the strawberries in the chocolate while it is still warm.  Set them chocolate covered berries on tray covered with a sheet  piece of wax paper or parchment paper.  Put the tray in the refrigerator to let the berries set for at least 1 hour.

You can also place two fresh Strawberry slices in each glass instead.

Enjoy! Happy Valentine’s Day!
